Azrael Thunder Horse never thought another Anglo woman could possibly knock him for a loop after leaving Hollywood. Despite the instant shot of lust he feels when he first lays eyes on his new Native American Studies teacher, he's determined to get rid of her. After all...she misled him with that damn Indian name of hers! But the stubborn redhead has a thing or two to say when he tries to fire her.
Cheyenne Red Wolf has never met a more maddening, arrogant, downright irritating man. He hates her on sight. Too bad he's the hottest thing she's ever seen...and her new boss. The man tried to fire her because she wasn't a "real" Indian. Good thing he can't stand her, because she sure as hell wouldn't be able to say no to all that sexy, hardheaded, Lakota masculinity.

Interesting story about 21st Century reverse discrimination...Woman On Fire by Fran Lee, is a fun story about a woman who is a teacher of Native American Studies even though she looks far from having anything to do with being Native American. Cheyenne Red Wolf was raised by her mother and Native American step-father, and even though she is as white as a crayon (red hair and blue eyes, as well) she has tried her whole life to be the dark haired, dark eyed Native American girl she has always wanted to be and not just by adoption and name. She thoroughly shocks Azrael Thunder Horse, who is the man who hired her by name and resume alone, to teach the Native American Studies classes on the Standing Rock res school.
He ignores the fact that first impressions are deceiving and has to backtrack to make things right with her after the way he treats her. Fortune smiles on him when she accidentally locks her keys in her car (along with everything she has) and he volunteers up a room at his Mother's house for her.
They are studies in opposites. Azreal was once a famous Hollywood actor that walked away from everything to head back to his roots and Cheyenne grew up trying her hardest to create lifelong roots in the Native American culture of her step-father.
The big question is - is all this sizzle and electricity between them just something that is a fling or can they make it something deeper and more meaningful? Can her dream man from her childhood be Azreal or are they just the dreams of a young girl? Is Cheyenne really the woman he has been trying to find and hang on to his whole life?
This book was refreshing to sit and just read. I didn't have to try and get into a characters head or deal with incredibly overused sentences and phrases. I enjoyed the development of Cheyenne and Azreals relationship and the stumbling they did throughout, so realistic and right.

Woman on Fire edition by Fran Lee Romance eBooks Reviews
It's been a while since I've read a contemporary romance with a Native American hero, and I really loved this one. I often search out multicultural/interracial romances with a white woman and a non-white male hero, and I find that Fran Lee writes some of the best of that theme. She never lets me down, and I have to put Woman on Fire up there with Dictated by Fate (white woman/Hispanic male) and A Brief Moment of Pleasure (white woman/Asian male).
The hero Az has hired Chy as the new NA studies teacher at a small reservation school, assuming from her name that Chy is a NA like himself. Az thinks the res has no room or need for whites and also believes that white and red should not mix. Having hired Chy sight unseen and based only on her outstanding qualifications and last name, Az is angry and dumbfounded to see this red-haired Anglo is the new teacher. He is also floored by the immedediate sexual attraction he feels for her.
Their first meeting was great, the sexual tension heavy and tense. I loved how tall and intimidating Az is, how he advances into the classroom, unbelieving eyes trained on this gorgeous teacher, as he backs Chy up against a desk. Soon he finds his hands on her waist and can't seem to let go of her. There's something about a man like that- so male, in charge, tall and handsome, long dark hair, intense and glittering black eyes. Chy is overwhelmed at first but soon stands her ground, telling him she intends to stay on at the school as the NAS teacher, despite his feelings otherwise.
With Chy having no place in town to stay, Az takes her to the home he shares with his mother Maude. Maude is an awesome character. I loved her. She likes Chy right away, even broadly hinting for Az to make a move, to get busy and give her some grandbabies. Maude fixes Chy a room up across the hall from Az, which leads to some more delicious sexual tension, seeing Az only in pj bottoms, that hot brown skin stretched taut over tight abs, and long dark hair falling down his back. Man!
I loved the sexual chemistry between Az and Chy. I probably loved this more than the sex scenes, which were hot. I love it when the hero and heroine fight the attraction at first, struggling to find excuses why not to give into need and desire, only to have that need building and growing, ready to tear free from whatever tenuous hold that may be desperately keeping it at bay. One of my favorite scenes is when Chy tells Az that they can't act on this attraction, that he's her boss, and as she moves around him to go upstairs, he grabs her wrist and whirls her around, right into his arms and then proceeds to devour her mouth. What a John Wayne move! I loved this very manly, alpha male move.
Az is sexy, primal, overwhelmingly going for what he wants, and he wants and intends to have Chy. For the first time in his life, he's found the one for him, the only one, the one who is his woman. He thinks he owns Chy, not in a bad way, just that she is his, that he controls her desires, that she burns for him. He soon realizes, that he is the one owned, and that he would beg to have her. And he is very charming using his native customs to win her.
If you want a hot, sweet love story with an incredibly sexy NA hero, this story is for you. A great read for me in many ways.
